- As your Mayor I will be a leader who will
listen and will be
committed to an open and honest debate of the issues, while assuring
that all voices are heard, and treating everyone with dignity and respect.
- As your Mayor I will be the type of
leader who will bring our
community together on issues and will encourage teamwork, while providing
focus and direction toward moving Mansfield in a positive direction.
- I believe our development as a city is the most important issue facing Mansfield.
- I believe we should hold-the-line on our current standard of three (3) single-family
residences per acre, which will allow us to maintain a pattern of controlled growth.
- I believe that we should focus our residential growth strategies on high-quality,
low-density subdivisions and continue to develop as a suburb.
- I would oppose the “New Urbanism” development strategy, one the official development
strategies of the city (see Mansfield’s Land Use Plan 2002), which calls for high-density
mixed-use development. This strategy also calls for multi-family developments to serve
as buffers between retail and single-family developments, allowing for apartments to be
build in various parts of the city.
- I would oppose future high-density developments, particularly multi-family apartments.
- Mansfield residents pay some of the highest city property taxes
in Tarrant County. There are 39 municipalities in Tarrant County. Our
city property tax rate (.69 cents per $100 of valuation) is higher than
32 of those cities. Thus, 82% of Tarrant County residents have a lower
city property tax rate than we do.
- With the potential for large sums coming to the city from oil and
gas royalties and from new commercial development, we must think of
Mansfield residents first and bring our city property tax rate in line
with other Tarrant County cities.
